Capitol Creativity
To celebrate its second anniversary, Capitol File magazine threw an orchid-ordained, dessert-decked event honoring Forest Whitaker. Capitol File magazine threw a soiree last Saturday, celebrating its second anniversary and
Whitaker and his wife, Keisha, were the stars of the evening, as the friendly couple spoke warmly with passing guests. But the centerpiece, according to Jayne Sandman, Capitol File's associate publisher, was a pink orchid chandelier with glass butterfly shapes created by Exquisite Design Studio. Lone strings of orchids also dotted the tent, with small double-sided copies of the magazine floating on the end.
The menu, from RSVP Catering, appealed to those with a sweet tooth, as passed offerings included pyramids filled with griotte cherries and hazelnut chocolate cake and hand-dipped chocolate marshmallows, while a four-level tower featured an array of mini pastries and desserts, such as a chocolate passion-fruit trifle topped with a bruleed meringue in a small glass.
By the end of the evening, as partygoers danced the night away, Keisha took the reins from DJ Rainier and spun a few songs, starting with Jay-Z’s “99 Problems.” —Danielle O'Steen
