Taking Names

Dashing through D.C.

She may be as English as Earl Grey tea, but actress Kate Beckinsale was Yankee doodling in the District Thursday night at an advance screening of her political drama "Nothing But the Truth," scheduled to open in New York on Dec. 19 before going into limited release Jan. 9.

On her first trip to the American capital, the actress ("Van Helsing," "The Aviator," and "Pearl Harbor") told The Washington Times it would "be fabulous" to return to Washington for the Inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama in January.

The doe-eyed brunette says Obama is "intelligent and literate, and that is a new thing for your country," but hastily points out that "I am very pro-American, and I come from a pro-American household."

In "Nothing But the Truth," Miss Beckinsale plays a Washington reporter and spent time at the Los Angeles Times learning how to be a scrappy scribe. "I researched journalism, and I found that actors and journalists are alike. You guys (journalists) are competitive and obsessive, and so are we actors."
